License for SPYRUS Identity Management Security Products and Services Extended With Microsoft Through 2006

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2003-- SPYRUSŪ, Inc. today announced it has renewed a contract with Microsoft Corp. to deliver SPYRUS' Security Software for secure messaging and identity management for use in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange for the Defense Message System, Version 3.0. This contract renewal, which extends through 2006, continues a relationship that began in 1994, when Microsoft and SPYRUS first collaborated to provide security solutions for previous versions of the Defense Message System, as well as to bring a number of robust security solutions to market such as Crypto Service Provider for Microsoft Authenticode, and smart token products for secure log-on and single sign-on.

The Defense Message System (DMS) is the designated messaging system for the Department of Defense (DoD) and supporting agencies. The DMS program is replacing the DoD's legacy messaging system, AUTODIN, as well as over 45 disparate email systems in use within the DoD. As one of the largest public key and email systems in the world, DMS provides secure, writer-to-reader authenticated messaging to DoD users at hundreds of sites worldwide. Deployment of the DMS Version 3.0 is expected to reach full deployment in September 2003. This new version, which includes the latest in SPYRUS and Microsoft security product offerings, gives users exceptional messaging capability, whether they're at their home base, traveling, or tactically deployed. While greatly improving capabilities, efficiency and speed, the new version also provides a lower total cost of ownership to the DoD.

"Microsoft is pleased to work with SPYRUS for its security expertise and software used in the Microsoft DMS solution," said Mohsen Al-Ghosein, vice president of the Exchange Server business unit at Microsoft. "DMS Version 3.0 has successfully passed final testing by the Joint Interoperability Test Command and is being deployed worldwide today. This latest version of DMS provides increased security for critical communications and messaging, which are particularly important in today's environment."

To date, SPYRUS has sold over 600,000 products associated with the implementation of the DMS program. The SPYRUS software that is used in DMS secures the contents of messages from unauthorized access through the use of message encryption and authenticates both the originator of the message and the message's contents through the use of digital signatures. This software is a subset module of SPYRUS' Rosetta Executive Suite and Rosetta CSI Common Access Card software product line. This uniquely qualifies SPYRUS to deliver a single software package in the near future that provides compliant functionality and services for both the DMS and the Common Access Card programs, which are the two largest deployments of smart tokens and client middleware for the DoD to date.

"This contract extension with Microsoft, combined with SPYRUS' recent DoD Enterprise Software Agreement award to supply the software that manages the DoD's Common Access Card, together validate SPYRUS' position as the leading provider of high assurance identity management software solutions to the federal government," said Tom Dickens, Chief Operating Officer of SPYRUS. "We look forward to working with Microsoft to deploy the latest version of the DMS system, with its enhanced security capability, its cost effectiveness and increased end user functionality and friendliness."
