SPYRUS Announces MySafeID™ Certification Authority (CA)

Self-Contained HW-based CA Provides Assurance without Expensive PKI Infrastructure

San Jose, California – April 7, 2008 – SPYRUS, Inc., an innovator in identity management and high-security hardware and software cryptography, today announced the MySafeID Certification Authority (CA). MySafeID CA combines the high-assurance, state-of-the-art SPYRUS LYNKS™ Series II CA Hardware Security Module with easy-to-use X.509 CA software.

Individuals or organizations can create trusted identities for a closed community of family, friends, or business users with minimum effort, equipment, and resources, for lowest total cost of ownership. MySafeID CA requires only a single computer running Microsoft Windows to set up multiple RSA and ECC CAs and issue certificates. There is no need for a dedicated server, the use of a remote CA service on a recurring basis, or other expensive PKI infrastructure.

MySafeID CA provides a simple way to generate private keys and certificates on secure SPYRUS or third party security devices to ensure the security and integrity of confidential information for individuals, for the small to medium enterprise (SME) market, and for branch offices or semi-autonomous units within larger enterprises.

MySafeID CA supports a two-tier certificate model, involving a root CA certificate created by MySafeID CA that can be explicitly trusted by the people who receive these certificates, and one to three certificates per end-user that are signed by the MySafeID root CA. Examples of end-user certificates include an encryption certificate (with key recovery), a digital signature certificate (without key backup, for nonrepudiation), and an authentication certificate.

MySafeID CA is unique in its ability to generate keys and issue certificates for ALL public key cryptographic algorithms currently certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as Federal Information Processing Standards. MySafeID CA, SPYRUS LYNKS Series II CA HSM, Rosetta Series II security devices, and Hydra PC Series II security devices support or exceed the next-generation Suite B algorithms. SPYRUS algorithm support includes Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) for key exchange and digital signatures using P-256, P-384, or P-521 keys (EC Diffie-Hellman, ECMQV, and ECDSA), AES-128/192/256, and SHA-224/256/384/512. Commonly used legacy algorithms (RSA-1024/2048, triple-DES, and SHA-1) are also supported. Support for RSA-4096 (for CA certificates only) will be available shortly.

MySafeID CA supports SPYRUS security devices, including Rosetta Series II smart card and USB, Rosetta SD, Rosetta miniSD, and the Hydra Privacy Card (Hydra PC) Series II. SPYRUS anticipates support very soon for the Rosetta microSD and for third-party tokens accepting industry standard X.509 certificates with a standard interface to Windows-based certificate management software.

Responsibility for data protection starts at the most fundamental level of an organization—the end user. SPYRUS believes that the best approach is to empower users to protect data at the source, at the very edge of the network; thus, the SPYRUS slogan: Security to the Edge™. The key to empowerment is to provide easily accessible methods of encryption, including the use of public key cryptography and digitally signed certificates that identify an individual and enable authentication. Until today, deploying a comprehensive hardware-based PKI infrastructure was a complex and expensive undertaking. MySafeID CA makes it easy and cost effective.
